What Is Eyelid Ptosis?

Ptosis occurs when the muscles responsible for opening the eyes become weakened, causing the eyelids to droop and leading patients to rely on their forehead and eyebrow muscles to open their eyes.
In normal eyes, approximately 80–90% of the pupil is visible. However, in cases of ptosis, the eyelid covers a significant portion of the pupil, leaving less than 70% exposed, which can create a tired or sleepy appearance.
