This condition occurs when the eyelid-lifting muscles weaken, causing the eyelid to droop and forcing the use of forehead and brow muscles to open the eyes.
A normal eye exposes about 80~90% of the iris. However, with ptosis, the drooping eyelid covers a significant portion of the pupil, leaving less than 70% of the iris exposed, which can create a tired or sleepy appearance.
